Characterising Single and Two-Phase Homogeneous Isotropic Turbulence with Stagnation Points

چکیده

It has been shown that, for dense, sub-Kolmogorov particles advected in a turbulent flow, carrier phase properties can be reconstructed from the particles’ velocity field. For instantaneous field used to detect stagnation points of phase. The Rice theorem therefore used, implying that Taylor length is proportional mean distance between such points. As this model only tested one-dimensional time signals, work discusses if it applied two-phase, three-dimensional flows. We use direct numerical simulations with Reynolds numbers Reλ 40 and 520 study particle-laden flows Stokes number St=0.5. confirm phase, proportionality coefficient depends weakly on Reλ. Then, we propose an interpolation scheme reconstruct results indicate cannot practice two-phase flows, as clustering forms very dense structures require large accurately sample flow

Spinodal decomposition in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence.

We study the competition between domain coarsening in a symmetric binary mixture below critical temperature and turbulent fluctuations. We find that the coarsening process is arrested in the presence of turbulence. The physics of the process shares remarkable similarities with the behavior of diluted turbulent emulsions and the arrest length scale can be estimated with an argument similar to th...

Streamlines in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and fractal-generated turbulence

We compare streamline statistics in stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and in turbulence generated by a fractal square grid. We examine streamline segments characterised by the velocity difference u D and the distance l between extremum points. We find close agreement between the stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence and the decay region of the fractal-generated turbulence as wel...

Anomalous scaling in homogeneous isotropic turbulence

The anomalous scaling exponents ζn of the longitudinal structure functions Sn for homogeneous isotropic turbulence are derived from the Navier-Stokes equations by using field theoretic methods to develop a low energy approximation in which the Kolmogorov theory is shown to act effectively as a mean field theory. The corrections to the Kolmogorov exponents are expressed in terms of the anomalous...

Velocity autocorrelations of decaying isotropic homogeneous turbulence

Velocity autocorrelations and the mean-square displacements of fluid particles are obtained for decaying, isotropic homogeneous turbulence by numerical simulation of the flow field, using 1283 and 256’ grids, and tracking several tens of thousands of fluid particles, using a third-order interpolation scheme. A self-preserving Lagrangian velocity autocorrelation coefficient is found in terms of ...
